AAT’s Anastasia Mirianashvili Competing in the Bakuriani Olympiad

Elene Papiashvili

From the 9th to the 15th of February, The European Youth Olympiad took place in Bakuriani, Georgia, and one of our accomplished Seniors Anastasia Mirianashvili, participated in it. We asked some questions regarding her love of skiing and additional details about her sportsmanship. It all started when she was just a toddler at 3-4 years old. That was when she skied for fun and it was a hobby for her. Later on, at 15 years old, she took it on at a professional level. “I went to a ski camp in Austria and fell in love with ski racing, I could not get enough!”

Anastasia is in the Georgian National Team of Skiing, therefore it is mandatory to compete in these sorts of competitions which represent the country. Therefore, they asked her to participate in the Bakuriani Olympiad and she was happy to do so. To succeed in contests as difficult as these, competitors need a lot of training. Anastasia is no exception. She usually goes to ski camps in Austria to train, and when she’s in Tbilisi, she goes to the gym 3-4 times a week to always be in shape.

About the competition itself, there are lots of memories to look back on. “I was selected to hold the flame of peace during the opening ceremony, that was definitely one of the best moments during the Olympiad for me. Obviously the race was also exciting and thrilling. It was my first international race so I was nervous but excited at the same time. It was a very good experience and challenging as well, since the slope was very icy.”

When asked if she would do it again, she said that despite the challenges she faced and lots of required practice, she would, as it was really fun.  As we can see, Anastasia is already a hardworking, ambitious skier. By training hard and keeping momentum, she does what she loves. She has a whole career ahead of her and we wish her luck with her sport!
