On January 29th and 30th, our school hosted an exciting book fair in the art lounge, welcoming the well-known bookstore, Prospero’s Books. This event provided students and teachers with a wonderful opportunity to explore a diverse selection of books ranging from fiction to nonfiction, classics to mangas—ensuring something for everyone.

Representing Prospero’s Books at the fair was Elene Mchedlishvili, who shared insights about the bookstore and its offerings. Founded by Steve and Eric Johnson, Prospero’s Books is a beloved literary hub where readers can find a rich collection of English literature, alongside Georgian literature and various nonfiction titles. In addition to novels, the bookstore also supplies English learning books, as well as specialized books about the Caucasus and its history, making it a valuable resource for anyone eager to explore the region’s cultural heritage.

During the fair, Elene emphasized the significance of book fairs, particularly in school settings. “Usually, students and teachers don’t have enough time to visit bookstores, so it is more convenient to spend some of their free time browsing through books without leaving the school,” she explained. She highlighted how both fiction and nonfiction books offer valuable insights and enjoyment to readers, making book fairs an easy way for students and teachers to discover new reads.

Beyond academics, reading serves as a means of relaxation and escape, especially in the often stressful school environment. With exams approaching, books provide a moment of peace—a chance to unwind and immerse oneself in another world.

As a special recommendation, Elene shared her admiration for renowned authors such as James Joyce and the Brontë sisters, encouraging students to explore these literary classics.

Prospero’s Books is not just a bookstore but also a cozy café—the first in Georgia to roast its own coffee beans. Visitors can enjoy a warm cup of coffee paired with delicious pastries while browsing through a collection of books, making it a perfect spot for book lovers and coffee enthusiasts alike.

The book fair was a resounding success, sparking enthusiasm for reading among students and faculty members. Events like these remind us of the joy that books bring and their lasting impact on our learning and personal growth.
