On October 24th, 2024, the school culture committee hosted the annual movie night. This year it was more of a movie afternoon since it was held right after classes. All students were welcome to attend, including 8th graders, as their classes were cut short for the day. In honor of Halloween, the committee selected the film "Scream.".
According to Nina Chiladze, the head of the committee, movie night is a tradition the School Culture Committee has followed for a few years already. Members of the committee plan an event in October where people of the academy can come together and do something simple yet meaningful: watch a good movie in a comfortable setting.
To enhance the Halloween spirit, the School Culture Committee purchased some festive decorations. The food and snacks at the event were mainly made by the students of the academy—some by the committee members, some by the volunteers who kindly helped by baking something for the day. Mr. Tazo and Givi helped with setting up the auditorium and some other technical details, along with contributions from different teachers, such as Levan Ghambashidze lending his precious teapot for the hot cocoa stand.
"One of the main challenges that come with conducting an event is finding the optimal time for everyone who is willing to attend. This year, by the advice of Mr. Cruz, we chose to host the movie night during the day, right after classes. Though some students were sad about us not organizing the event during the evening, the ambience in the auditorium helped create a comfortable, homey feeling nevertheless." said Nina Chiladze.
Regarding the financial aspects of the event, committee member Natalia Abuladze explains, "The planning process began with a meeting of the culture committee to establish the full plan for the movie night. After writing down the shopping list, we wrote out the budget and took it to Mr. Cruz, who then covered the cost. We purchased decorations, candy, and single-use cutlery. Mainly, the food was brought by the committee members from home. Nini provided us with delicious homemade grilled cheese, and Nutsa Kakiashvili brought cookies. Regarding drinks, we had both hot and cold options."
"It was a very memorable night for the students. I loved the snacks the most. My friends and I liked the movie choice. I don't think that anything should be changed for next year," Nini Kvaratskhelia, a junior high attendee said.
Elle Talakvadze, a junior, shared her experience as well: "I enjoyed watching the movie with the company of my fellow schoolmates; it was an experience to remember for sure. It’s important to establish these school traditions in order to have fun once in a while. It was organized very well, taking everyone and everything into consideration. I was disappointed to see that some students showed disrespect for the event organizers, leaving the place trashed and messy. However, I believe that this is fixable, and I hope it won’t happen again. Overall, I found it entertaining and enjoyable."
